Néit offers neat way to store and track luggage

Losing track of luggage ranks as one of the most annoying parts of traveling by airplane. Having bulky luggage that takes up too much room in the closet, meanwhile, can be a minor annoyance also.

patent-claimedThe collapsible Néit Luggage offers a solution to both of those issues. The accompanying iOS and Android app works in conjunction with a GPS tracker that enables owners of the luggage to locate it, as well as store boarding passes, book additional flights and hotels, check the status of flights, map the route from an airport to a hotel and find location-specific tips on things to do.

Néit ships in December. Future pricing for a version that can be checked in for flights and can be reduced in size by 70 percent thanks to its patented frame is $549. But early bird Kickstarter backers can get one for a pledge starting at $279. Future pricing for a version designed to be taken aboard a flight as a carry-on and that can be reduced in size by 50 percent is $449. But early bird Kickstarter backers can get one for a pledge starting at $219. Its makers are looking to raise $96,178 by March 11.

There has been other luggage with GPS tracking functionality, including Trackase. But Néit’s collapsibility gives it an advantage over that and a few other similar products. Assuming that it indeed works as promised, the few negatives include the lack of support for operating systems other than Android and iOS, as well as the need to pay $40 extra for the GPS tracker. Considering that it is a key selling point of the product, it seems odd that the GPS isn’t factored into the regular price.
